Causes of Absence
Time Track Central extends Business Central's standard Causes of Absence page (the standard field labeled Description is relabeled Name here) with the settings that drive how each absence reason behaves in the web interface — see Web App: Causes of Absence.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Code | Standard Business Central field — unique identifier for the absence cause. |
| Name | The standard BC Description field, relabeled. Shown to employees when picking an absence reason. |
| Extended Description | A longer explanation, if the short Name isn't enough context for employees choosing a reason. |
| Requires Approval | Whether a manager must approve this type of absence request, matching the approval flow described in Web App: Approve or Reject Absences. |
| Requires Budget | Whether this cause draws down a balance (as vacation/parental leave typically does) rather than being unlimited (as sick leave typically is). Turning this on unlocks the three budget fields below. |
| Budget Cycle Start | When the budget cycle resets — Annual (a fixed calendar cycle, always 1 year), or Last Credit (a new cycle starts counting from whenever the balance was last credited, rather than a fixed calendar date). Only editable when Requires Budget is on. |
| Budget Cycle Duration | How long each cycle runs. Required whenever Requires Budget is on, and only editable if Budget Cycle Start isn't Annual (an annual cycle's duration is implicitly one year). |
| Negative Budget Allowed | Whether an employee can go below a zero balance for this cause (i.e. take absence they haven't yet accrued). Only enabled when Requires Budget is on. |
| Payroll Code | Read-only — shows which payroll code is linked to this cause, set from the payroll code side rather than here. |
| Total Absence (Base) | Standard Business Central field — read-only, the total absence posted against this cause, expressed in its base unit of measure. |
| Unit of Measure Code | Required — the unit absence for this cause is recorded in (typically days or hours). |
From the Employee Card or List
Both the standard Employee Card and Employee List gain an Absence Ledger Entries action, jumping straight to that employee's absence history — the same ledger reachable from Absence Journal → Ledger Entries, pre-filtered to one person.
