Making a task line available for time booking
A project task only shows up as bookable in the web interface's smart/quick editor once it's marked Active. Time Track Central adds this Active checkbox to the standard Project Task Lines subform and Project Task List, and it can only be turned on for lines with Project Task Type Posting (schedule/budget-only lines can't be booked against directly).
In practice, a task line needs all of the following before employees can write hours on it:
- The project itself is open.
- The task line has a budget.
- The task line is marked Active.
If a project or task doesn't appear as an option when an employee tries to book hours, this is the first thing to check.
Project Task Lines / Project Task List fields
| Field | Where | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Active | Project Task Lines subform, Project Task List | Makes the task bookable from the web interface. Only selectable on Posting-type lines. |
| Overtime Allowed | Project Task Lines subform | Whether overtime can be calculated on hours booked against this task. Only enabled if the project's Project Type has its Overtime Type set to something other than Never — if the type says overtime is never calculated, there's nothing to allow per-task. |
| Qty. To Post | Project Task Lines subform, Project Task List | Read-only — the quantity currently pending posting from approved timesheet lines against this task. |
| Extended Description | Project Planning Lines | A longer free-text description field alongside the standard planning line description. |
| Time Sheet No. | Project Planning Lines | Read-only, with a Time Sheet Detail drill-down action to jump from a planning line back to the timesheet line that generated it. |
Two further fields, Schedule (Total Quantity) and Usage (Total Quantity), are added but hidden by default — enable them via Personalize if you need running budget/usage totals visible directly on the task line.
Travel on Ship-to Address
Business Central's standard Ship-to Address card gains a new Travel group with two fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Travel Time | The travel time charged when an employee selects this ship-to/customer location. |
| Travel Distance | The travel distance charged when an employee selects this ship-to/customer location. |
These are per-location values (see Web App: Customer Location for how employees pick a location) — the resource, item, and posting task used to charge that time/distance company-wide are configured once, centrally, under Setup → Customer Travel.
