Overtime Lists

An Overtime List (reachable from Setup) is a schedule of time slots that determine when a surcharge applies to hours worked, and how big that surcharge is. A list can be assigned to a specific customer, a customer group, a project, or to All Customers as a fallback.

A Project Type's Overtime Type must be set to Overtime List for any of this to take effect — if it's set to Payroll Code or Never, overtime lists assigned to that project are ignored.

Header fields

FieldDescription
CodeUnique identifier.
DescriptionDisplay name.
StatusDraft while being edited; must be verified before its lines take effect (see below).
Assign-to TypeCustomer, Customer Group, Project, or All Customers.
Assign-to No.The specific customer/group/project, disabled when Assign-to Type is All Customers (there's nothing to pick).

Editing and verifying lines

New or modified lines start in Draft status (shown highlighted in the Lines subpage) and are not included in overtime calculations until you run Verify Lines, which checks the new/modified rules for consistency and activates them. Business Central shows a standing notification — "You must verify and activate modified lines to include them in overtime calculations." — for as long as unverified draft lines exist, with a shortcut straight to the Verify Lines action.

Line fields

FieldDescription
Start Time / End TimeThe time window the surcharge applies within. Times may cross midnight (e.g. 22:00–06:00 is valid).
Work Type CodeOptional — restrict the surcharge to a specific work type.
DescriptionFree-text, for your own reference — not shown to employees.
Monday – SundayWhich days of the week this line applies to.
HolidayWhether this line also applies on public holidays (see Public Holidays).
Line Surcharge %The percentage surcharge applied over the normal rate for hours falling in this window.
Maximum DurationThe number of hours within the window billed at this surcharge before the next matching line's rate takes over.

Worked example

Someone works 7:00–17:00 with a half-hour lunch break (10 hours − 0.5 hours = 9.5 hours). If a line covers that window with a Maximum Duration of 8 hours and a 25% surcharge, the first 8 hours are normal rate and the remaining 1.5 hours are charged at the 25% surcharge — tiering rates by how long someone has already worked, not just by time of day.

If Work Reports is installed, overtime list lines gain an extra grouping field — Group A, B, C, or D — so overtime totals can be broken out into up to four named buckets on the generated report, instead of one combined overtime figure. Which lines you assign to which group, and what you label them for the customer, is up to you.
