Setup

This walks a company owner or admin through getting Time Track Central usable for the first time on a new Business Central environment. It only covers the order of operations — each step links to the full reference page for the details.

1. Run the Guided Setup Wizard. Business Central launches the core wizard automatically the first time you open the extension; it seeds sample project types, payroll codes, and work variants so there's something to work with immediately. If the Expense extension is installed, run its separate Guided Setup Wizard too, for sample expense categories, payment types, and mileage vehicles.

   Treat the result as a skeleton, not a finished configuration — none of the sample data has real G/L account mappings yet.

2. Complete Setup and Expense Setup. Work through Time Track Central Setup — time zone, which interface modules are enabled, and the company-wide defaults everything else builds on. If you're using expenses, do the same for Expense Setup, including connecting Azure Blob Storage for receipts.

3. Assign users. Add employees to Time Sheet Users so they can sign in to the web app — or enable Automatically Create Users on the Setup page to skip this step.

4. Review the project types the wizard created. Check the Project Types (approval flow, overtime handling, chargeability) and adjust them to match how your organization actually works before assigning them to real projects.

5. Make sure projects have a type and tasks enabled for writing hours. Every project needs a Project Type assigned. On top of that, a task line only becomes bookable once the project is open, the task has a budget, and the task line is marked Active — if a project or task isn't showing up for an employee, this is the first thing to check.

6. Generate time sheets for employees. Employees need a timesheet to exist before they can book hours against it. Set Minimum No. of Time Sheets under Setup → Users to how many weeks ahead should always be kept generated.

Once this is done, point your employees at Getting Started for the web app itself.
